LNG tanker reports gunfire from a skiff off Yemen
UK Maritime Trade Operations reported that an LNG tanker was approached by a small skiff carrying seven people on 17 October, around 140 nautical miles southwest of Al Mukalla, Yemen. Two shots were fired towards the vessel; its armed security team responded with two warning shots, after which the skiff altered course. The vessel's identity was not disclosed and the incident remains under investigation.
Why it matters
For LNG crews, the immediate concern is safe passage, not speculation about who carried out the attack. Passage planning, security watches, bridge-team coordination and timely reporting matter when a threat develops at close range.
Impact
The report reinforces the need for voyage-specific maritime security assessments in the Gulf of Aden; it does not establish a wider interruption to LNG trade.
